School of Nursing-Join us!
This trip will combine an opportunity to study and serve abroad as part of the School of Nursing. This clinical immersion elective includes a focus on global healthcare nursing and medical missions to El Salvador. Students will be able to identify alternate views about behaviors related to health and illness based upon cultural differences. Students will also be able to observe how the profession of nursing is different in a global perspective. Students will examine the host countries cultural beliefs, values, customs, spirituality and health promotion practices by integrating information learned in the classroom to a global healthcare setting. The mission goal is to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to the community of El Salvador.

I had an amazing experience in El Salvador. I learned God loves us through others. He always provides our needs (money for the mission trip, food, clothes and friendships). I have understood every gift is given to every person to complete the body of Christ. There is nothing impossible for God even in the most difficult circumstances. I meet amazing people who I cried, laughed, prayed and witnessed the love of God to a beautiful nation. Therefore for these three different reasons I highly recommend this trip to another student.

This trip is a humbling experience! I enjoyed entering the homes of the people and joining the students in the schools. There are so many needs in the mountains of El Salvador, yet my greatest moment is when I realized how much they crave for God's presence in their lives and the importance of remaining faithful to God.

This was an incredible experience. I would recommend this trip to another student because I learned a lot about another culture. Missions trips are a great way to grow spiritually and in close friendships. It was one of the best trips of my life!

Brief Testimonial of the El Salvador Mission Trip (School of Nursing 2014)

What we did: As a team of 32, we went into the villages of El Salvador, planted base camp at a local church, and split up into teams of 4-6 and went directly to the houses of the villages. We had a team at the church, and the rest of us were sent to go into the houses to provide medical care with the hope of bringing spiritual care: the gospel. We went into these homes and first and foremost, made effort to show these people that they mattered in the sight of Almighty God. Our goal was to show these people that they (as all are) are created in God's image, therefore they have inherent value and worth, so they deserve to be cared for the same as any other person and we have an obligation to make sure they know the gospel. So we went into these homes and did just that. The responses were tremendoues. People wept as they came to understand that we came all this way just to help them physically by bandaging wounds and giving them food, and spiritually by sharing the gospel and praying with and for them.

My experience with God: On this trip I realized more than I ever have that God is great. Ever since I was born again by the will of God, I have said that God is great, but my understanding of his glory was much smaller than I realized. I witnessed just about every member of our team of 32 in tears because of how God was working inwardly on the souls of the team members. One of the members of the team who talked about her struggle in sharing the gospel with people, and told us after one work day that she told one of the villagers the message of forgiveness of sins that Jesus brought (and this was the first time ever that this person shared the gospel with someone who has not heard it). By the power of the Spirit in the grace of God, this villager believed! God saved someone that day through this person on our team who never shared the gospel with anyone before. God is great. His power is unlimited and he loves to use those who think they are unqualified. This nurse found out that day that she is not a nurse who is a Christian, but rather, she is a Christian nurse.

Highlight of the Trip: One night, our team went into a fortress (literally), it was called "The Prayer Fortress" and this was a place where (to this day) there has been constant prayer 24/7 specifically for the nations. A place where there has been a constant focus in prayer that God would finish his saving work and bring the chosen children of God scattered in all the nations home! The specific highlight was that one night the team went there and as we worshipped the Lord Jesus in song, the Spirit and power in the presence of God drew near in such a profound way. I cannot describe with words the weight of the glory of God that filled that small upper room. Each person cried and as we closed, we talked briefly about how times like this are precious and must not be forgotten. I assure you, that each person who was there has not forgotten.
