The thing I gained most on this trip was the clarity. At the beginning of the year, I told myself I wasn't going to go on a mission trip, but I guess God had different plans for me because felt called to go to Chile.  Prior to the trip, I had been praying for clarity on what my life as a medical missionary would look like because that's what I feel called to pursue. I couldn't figure out if I would be the type of missionary that leaves and never really comes back or if I would be one that bases their life in the US and then takes short term missions each year. After the trip and talking to those whose life is intertwined with missions I had just a huge moment of undeniable clarity. I was laying on the ground outside at night looking at the beautiful Chilean skies that are so clear that you can see galaxies and all of the sudden I kinda just knew what my life would look like mission wise. My life would be based in the US and that I would take a lot of short-term missions in my life. That was a little hard for me because I know my heart will break every time I leave the place i'm doing work at and that became very apparent on this trip. For instance, our last night was when my heart broke the most on this trip. I had spent the evening playing with a group of kids and there was one little girl named Sophia that stayed longer than the rest. I hung out with her until it was our time to leave and then I brought her to her mother. Her mom was in tears and said either "I'm happy to see God in you" or I'm happy to see God with you". I'm not exactly sure which one because my Spanish isn't the best. After that Sophia was tugging on my arm asking me to come back tomorrow but I couldn't because we were leaving chile that day. It was such a bittersweet moment because my heart shattered at the thought of leaving but at the same time, I felt like we accomplished what we set out to do in Chile in that moment. But that moment and so much more really validated that I am called to missions and that one day my life will be overflowed with moments like that and I think that really proves how awesome god is and how he truly has a plan for all of us.
